Hi Folks!

Hope you are all well. The last few days for me have been amazing, exhausting and satisfying. It all started with a support slot in the lovely city of Odense,Denmark where I was invited to support none other than Sting! This involved two 4am starts but it was well worth it. The sun was beating down, the catering was great and the crowd was fantastic. Despite being an international superstar Sting forgoed the international chef for catering with the rest of us and even stopped by my dressing room to thank me for coming. A great gesture and much appreciated. After closing my eyes for a few seconds near Copenhagen Airport it was up with the lark for the long journey to the Isle Of Wight Festival. Upon hearing the stories we were expecting the worst but our train/ferry/car journey was pretty straightforward. We arrived in time to see Noah and The Whale and Elbow who were great and of course Tom Petty who was incredible.

Between him and Bruce Springsteen the old timers really showed us how it was done this weekend! Friday night was fairly low key for me as I knew I had a big show the next day. And so at 12pm me,Dominic,Mick and Donnie took to the stage for our first ever gig together! Considering this it went really well.(Apart from a few minutes where nobody including myself seemed to know what the capo position was for one of the new songs) this resulted in an ‘extended intro’ but we got through it and ended with a rousing ‘Time Is Nigh’ and ‘Good Souls’.

While everyone was rocking out to Pearl Jam I trudged up to the Garden Stage to see The Charlatans play one of my favourite albums of all time “Tellin Stories’. They didn’t disappoint and the triumphant opening chords to ‘North Country Boy’ made everyone around me forget the rain. Sunday was a day of recovery and music.

It was great to catch up with Matt Cardle,Suzanne Vega,Christina Perri and Melanie C all of whom I have worked with in some way or another. Performing ‘One By One’ with Melanie is always fun although I’ll need to work on my dance moves for next time! If anything the Garden Stage set was even better than the main stage one as we were a lot more relaxed and had an hour to showcase the best songs. I was lucky to have such an amazing band. Mick and Donnie are regulars in Paolo Nutini’s group and Dominic is in Reef. I’ve admired their playing from afar before so it was great to be onstage with them. Apart from the ‘official’ gigs there was an acoustic performance in the Oxfam tent which was very well received and made the Metro top 10! And of course the late night pub sing a long this time featuring Paolo Nutini who was great. I have to finish this so I can get over to the airport for another date with Sting. This one’s in Portugal. I’ll tell you all about it when I get back!

See You Soon
